How to Check Your Results

1
Through Your School

Schools receive results via IBIS from 5 July and can share them with you right away. Ask your coordinator whether your school will release results on the 5th and how they'll do it.

2
Candidate Website

From 6 July, log in at candidates.ibo.org with the personal code and PIN from your coordinator. Keep these private — they're the only way to view your results.

3
Sent to Universities

If you asked the IB to send results to universities or colleges, they're forwarded automatically to the institutions you named — in the UK via UCAS, elsewhere directly. Confirm your requests were submitted before results day.

What Your Results Show

Your IB Diploma results bring together your subject grades and your core points into one total. For how the subject grade boundaries are set, see our guide to grade boundaries.

Subject Grades (1–7)

Each of your six subjects is graded on a scale from 7 (highest) down to 1 (lowest):

7 6 5 4 3 2 1

HL and SL subjects use the same 1–7 scale.

Core Points (up to 3)

Your combined performance in Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) adds up to 3 bonus points. Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) is not graded but must be completed.

Total Score (out of 45)

Six subjects at up to 7 points each give a maximum of 42, plus up to 3 core points — a maximum Diploma score of 45.

Pass or Fail

A minimum of 24 points is needed for the Diploma, together with conditions on your minimum grades and completion of the core (TOK, EE and CAS). Falling short means a course results certificate rather than the full Diploma.

Career-related Programme (CP) candidates receive results on the same day, reported through their courses and the CP core rather than a single /45 total.

After Results Day

Enquiry Upon Results (EUR)

If a grade looks lower than expected, your coordinator can request a review on your behalf:

  • - Re-mark of externally assessed work (exam papers)
  • - Re-moderation of internally assessed work
  • - Return of your marked exam materials

Requests go through your coordinator, not directly. A grade can go up, down, or stay the same. Deadlines fall in the weeks after results day — confirm the exact dates with your school.

Retaking Exams

Options if you want to improve a grade:

  • - Next session: November 2026
  • - Retake individual subjects to raise your total
  • - Register through a school as a coordinator-supported candidate
  • - Your best grade in each subject counts toward the Diploma
  • - The Diploma must be completed within a limited number of sessions

Registration for November closes well before the session — talk to your coordinator early.

Results and University Places

The IB sends your results to the universities and colleges you designated, in any country. What happens next depends on where you applied.

US & Canada

Admissions decisions usually arrive before results day, so most offers aren't conditional on your IB score. Send your final results to your college, and check whether your grades earn course credit or advanced standing.

United Kingdom

Conditional offers are confirmed through UCAS once your results arrive. If you narrowly miss, contact the university (some still accept) or look at UCAS Clearing for other places.

Other countries

Results go directly to the institutions you named. Requirements and deadlines vary, so check each university's process. If a grade looks wrong, ask your coordinator about an enquiry upon results.

Frequently Asked Questions

When are IB May 2026 results released?

Schools receive results via IBIS from 5 July 2026 and can pass them on straight away. If your school doesn't release them on the 5th, you can access your own results from 6 July 2026 at candidates.ibo.org. Both openings are at 12:00 UTC (1pm BST / 8am EDT / 2pm CEST / 8pm SGT).

Why do schools get results a day before students?

Coordinators receive results first (from 5 July, staggered in 15-minute intervals by time zone) so schools can check them and choose how to share them with students. Many schools release results on the 5th; if yours doesn't, the candidate website opens to students on 6 July.

How do I access my IB results online?

Go to candidates.ibo.org and log in with the personal code and PIN provided by your school's IB coordinator. If you don't have these details, ask your coordinator before results day — they are the only way to view your results online.

How is the IB Diploma scored?

Each of your six subjects is graded 1–7 (7 is highest), giving up to 42 points. Theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay together add up to 3 more points, for a maximum total of 45. You need at least 24 points, plus conditions on minimum grades and completion of the core, to be awarded the Diploma.

Can I get an IB paper re-marked?

Yes, through an Enquiry Upon Results (EUR). Your coordinator submits the request — options include a re-mark of exam papers, re-moderation of internally assessed work, or return of your marked materials. A grade can go up, down, or stay the same. Confirm the deadlines with your school as they fall in the weeks after results day.

When can I retake IB exams?

The next session is November 2026. You can retake individual subjects to improve your total, registering through a school. Your best grade in each subject counts, and the Diploma must be completed within a limited number of sessions. Registration closes well ahead of the session, so speak to your coordinator early.

What if I miss my university offer?

This mainly applies to conditional offers, which are common in the UK. Contact the university directly — some accept students who narrowly miss their conditions. In the UK, UCAS Clearing is another route to a place. If you think a grade is wrong, ask your coordinator whether an Enquiry Upon Results is worthwhile before any deadlines pass.

Dates and procedures on this page follow the IB's own guidance. Official references: IB results release announcement and the Getting Results page (ibo.org).

Your school is the definitive source for your own results, timings, and any enquiry or retake deadlines — always check with your IB coordinator.
