The Edexcel GCSE Mathematics qualification is built from 6 paper components, each available at Foundation or Higher tier. The grid below shows the paper components appearing in the June 2022 bundle on this page.

About the June 2022 1MA1 session

Edexcel GCSE Mathematics 1MA1 is assessed by three papers across two tiers. Paper 1 is non-calculator (1MA1/1F or 1MA1/1H, 1 hour 30 minutes, 80 marks); Papers 2 and 3 are calculator papers (same duration and marks). Foundation tier covers grades 5-1; Higher tier covers grades 9-4.

The June 2022 bundle on this page contains 12 files across 6 paper components covering both Foundation and Higher tiers. Mark schemes are included for every question paper. The examiner report has not yet been released for this session.

How to use these Edexcel GCSE Mathematics past papers

Practise the right tier

Don't mix Foundation and Higher papers. If your centre has entered you for Higher, every practice paper should be Higher — the question style and difficulty are genuinely different from Foundation.

Time yourself properly

GCSE Math papers are 1 hour 30 minutes each. The non-calculator Paper 1 is the trickiest for pacing — practice estimating where the harder questions sit so you can budget time.

Use the June 2022 mark scheme

Edexcel GCSE mark schemes show the acceptable wording plus alternative answers, often with marking dots indicating each discrete point. Mark strictly — if your wording isn't on the list, examiners won't usually credit it.

Read the examiner report (once released)

For this June 2022 sitting, the ER tells you exactly which questions the cohort struggled with and what examiners wanted instead. If you have one weekend to revise, the ER plus the question paper is usually the highest-leverage combination.

Edexcel GCSE 1MA1 June 2022 — Frequently asked questions

What's in the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics June 2022 paper bundle?
This page hosts 12 files for the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics (1MA1) June 2022 session: question papers, mark schemes for both Foundation and Higher tiers. All files come from Pearson Edexcel and are free to download.
What's the difference between Foundation and Higher tier?
Edexcel GCSE Mathematics is tiered. Foundation tier papers (codes ending in F, e.g. 1MA1/1F) cover grades 5-1; the maximum achievable grade is 5. Higher tier papers (codes ending in H, e.g. 1MA1/1H) cover grades 9-4; the maximum is grade 9, but candidates who underperform on Higher can drop down to grade 3 (a "safety net" below the normal Higher floor of 4). Centres choose the tier based on expected performance — don't mix Foundation and Higher papers in practice.
How is Edexcel GCSE different from Edexcel IGCSE Mathematics?
Edexcel GCSE (1MA1) is the UK qualification used in English and Welsh state schools, regulated by Ofqual. Edexcel IGCSE (e.g. 4MA1) is the international version, taught in over 80 countries and not Ofqual-regulated. Both are graded 9-1 and accepted equivalently by UK universities, but the GCSE has tighter coursework rules and the IGCSE has slightly more challenging mathematics in the science papers.
When does Pearson release June 2022 Edexcel GCSE mark schemes and examiner reports?
Pearson publishes Edexcel GCSE mark schemes on results day (late August for June sittings, early January for November), with examiner reports following 2-3 months later. The mark schemes for this session are linked above. The examiner report has not been published yet.
How should I practise these 1MA1 papers effectively?
Use our free Exam Hub to view the question paper and mark scheme side-by-side. Time yourself for the full paper duration (1h 30min for Math, 1h 45min for sciences), self-mark strictly with the MS. For weak topics, return to the Edexcel GCSE Mathematics hub.
